Kürbiskernöl ist eine Spezialität von Slovenske gorice und Prlekija, wird aber auch in der Südsteiermark hergestellt. Im Vergleich zu Olivenöl wird Kürbisöl in der slowenischen Küche weitgehend ignoriert, enthält jedoch viele Arten von Vitaminen und Mineralstoffen.
In Slovenske Gorice wird Kürbisöl hauptsächlich als Dressing für verschiedene Salaten verwendet und ist eine besonders gesunde Kombination mit Zwiebeln (Zwiebeln mit Kürbisöl), wobei die Zwiebeln die Blutgefäße reinigen und das Kürbiskernöl den Gehalt an schlechtem Cholesterin im Blut senkt. Darüber hinaus hat Kürbiskernöl in unverdünnter Form einen sehr angenehmen und intensiven Geschmack, den man am besten durch eine Verkostung auf selbstgebackenem Brot testen kann.
