Vurberk Castle is located on a hill above the Drava River in the southern part of the Slovenske Gorice, of which only ruins remain today. It was first mentioned in the 13th century, and the lords of Vurberk also gave it a distinctive coat of arms with a worm or fairy snake. The ownership of the castle changed several times, among others it was owned by the families from Ptuj, Stubenberg, Attems and also the Herberstein, who owned the castle until the First World War. During World War II, the castle was taken over by the Germans and used as a Nazi political school. The castle was almost completely destroyed in the bombing in 1945. Today, the castle has been partially restored, there is an event space in the courtyard, and the Huda Liza pub operates inside.
